I had the opportunity to sit and chat with Rachel Marie McCash, Miss Cottonwood Heights USA. I have never done a formal interview with anyone. I write about different things in the community but it is usually a perspective of a neighbor writing about the community and not about a person. I can come up with very detailed real estate stats that can bore an engineer, but this was really fun.

So what do we know about Rachel Marie McCash? Her roots are here in Cottonwood Heights, although her parent’s careers caused them to travel and live in other parts of the country Cottonwood Heights is home. Rachel has grandparents and other extended family members that live here, she went to Butler elementary and Butler middle schools.

Rachel is an actor, and you may have seen her in the Warner Brothers TV Show “Everwood” that is filmed here in Utah, she has also had lead roles on stage in “Crimes of the Heart” and “Ludlow Fair” Rachel has had parts in “Mall Cop and Unaccompanied Minors” and is currently filming two different movies in which she has the lead, “Love Remains, and Geeks, Goblins, Elves and Elliot due this fall.

Besides being an actor Rachel is a model, she dances, sings, plays guitar, piano, composes, goes to school, works other jobs while breaking in. There is no doubt that I had the chance to meet someone special and I will someday have the ability to say I met her when…

The thing I liked the most about our Miss Cottonwood Heights USA is her heart to serve. Rachel had moved several times with her family growing up and knows what it is to be considered the new kid. This has made her want to help out the schools with the students that are new to the school, as she has taught me that the kids aren’t new, the school is new. So I would watch for her to be working with schools this coming year.

What a fun time I had meeting this hardworking young lady, she works, goes to school has her acting and is preparing for the Miss Utah USA Pageant and had time to meet with me.

So you too can be a part of her career, Rachel is raising funds for the Miss Utah USA Pageant and is looking to raise just under a $1,000. This will pay for her entry fee and some wardrobe. Local businesses can earn a spot in the pageant material (I believe) so go ahead contact Rachel missrachelmccash@gmail.com Voice or Text 609-932-0015

Bywater Park Baseball Games ends in a Nail Biter

Brighton All Stars hosted the Riverton All Stars this evening at Bywater Park here in Cottonwood Heights. Both teams had a lot of exuberant fans with them. The snack bar was open, the smell of hotdogs was in the air, and smaller kids were running around playing.

The game see sawed back in forth all evening with each team taking a one or two run lead. Both teams playing awesome, both teams were hitting well and making really good plays in the field.

The game went into the final inning and Brighton had a one run lead. Brighton did not score any runs in the seventh and in the bottom of the seventh Riverton had tied the game, then had bases loaded with one out and the Riverton batter hit a sharp line drive over the third baseman’s head and landed just fair and drove in the winning run. What a game, it truly was a game where it was a shame one team had to actually lose.

44 Yrs Later: The 7 Children In ‘The Sound of Music’
‘The Sound of Music’ won the Academy Award for Best Picture of 1965 and is one of the most popular musicals ever produced.

Remember the 7 children of the Von Trapp family?

They were having a reunion after 40 years
and all were looking healthy and amazingly well…

What is really tragic though is Julie Andrews lost that magnificent voice of hers some years back (1997) because of a throat operation – she had been promised it would not affect her singing ability … but it did! Really, really sad. She sued the medical people involved but, of course, the damage was done … no amount of compensation can make up for such an incredible loss! In recent years, she appeared in a movie series, “The Princess diaries”, in which she sang for the very first time (after ‘ 97), but in very low octave.

CURRENTLY…

It wouldn’t be funny if it weren’t so true… Julie Andrews turned 69 and to commemorate her 69th birthday on October 1, actress/vocalist Julie Andrews made a special appearance at Manhattan’s Radio City Music Hall for the benefit of the AARP. One of the musical numbers she performed was “My Favourite Things” from the legendary movie “The Sound Of Music.”

Here are the actual lyrics she used:

Maalox and nose drops and needles for knitting,
Walkers and handrails and new dental fittings,
Bundles of magazines tied up in string,
These are a few of my favourite things.
Cadillac’s and cataracts, and hearing aids and glasses,
Polident and Fixodent and false teeth in glasses,
Pacemakers, golf carts and porches with swings,
These are a few of my favourite things..
When the pipes leak, When the bones creak,
When the knees go bad,
I simply remember my favourite things,
And then I don’t feel so bad.
Hot tea and crumpets and corn pads for bunions,
No spicy hot food or food cooked with onions,
Bathrobes and heating pads and hot meals they bring,
These are a few of my favourite things.
Back pains, confused brains, and no need for sinnin’,
Thin bones and fractures and hair that is thinnin’,
And we won’t mention our short, shrunken frames,
When we remember our favourite things.
When the joints ache, When the hips break,
When the eyes grow dim,
Then I remember the great life I’ve had,
And then I don’t feel so bad.
