Friday August 14th  at Bywater Park on Banbury Rd about 3 and half blocks of the Cottonwood Heights Rec Center

The third in a series of three movies in the park that the Cottonwood Heights Parks and Recreation produce. They are a good time for the whole family, giant inflatable rides, along with Scales and Tails. The fun starts at 7:00 PM the magic at 8:00 PM and the movie Kung Fu Panda starts at dusk.

So bring a blanket and some snacks and enjoy another night Living In Cottonwood Heights.

Bywater Park Cottonwood Heights

It is a park everyone in the family can enjoy, from the little tykes on the playground to seniors playing tennis. There is a pavilion for family gatherings or church picnics.

One of its biggest attractions is the three baseball diamonds, two little league and one full size. The little leagues are broken into two fields, one called the major and one called you guessed it the minor. The major field has dugouts, Scoreboard, bleachers, Announcers booth, and a snack bar.

My son and I enjoy our games there he is in the Brighton Cal Ripken League through the great efforts of Scott and Sue Potter. They work really and I mean really hard and long hours to make sure we have a nice baseball league for our children.

My daughter and her friends come to the games and hang out with friends during the game.

Last year we had a movie in the park night, which was really fun for the whole family.

It was a usual Sunday morning. I wake early, I go down to my office and go online and read different things. I check my email, my Google alerts to see if there is any interesting news about Cottonwood Heights and Salt Lake. Well the batteries on my mouse were all but dead, I checked the closet for 2 AA and of course I have about 50 AAA and no AAs. Then I remembered I have some in my car, so I get my keys and go out to the driveway and I notice water coming up out of the street. I’m thing that can’t be good, so I call the city and the recording says to call Salt Lake, so I do and they already knew and were on it.

So it made for fun viewing for the whole family, the dog had fun barking every time a new truck and person entered the scene. It starts off with Staker coming out and marking the area for gas lines, electricity, cable, phone and whatever else is buried in our streets. That was earlier this morning and that was right around the time the nice winter storm started rolling in.

The digging crew shows up, big truck blocked our view, Chris and I were bummed. Then the snow started coming down harder. The plumbers on steroids got down in the street and patched this pipe, then another crew shows up to fill the hole. This time there was no big truck blocking our view so we got to watch the fun. There was back hoe, dump truck guys working shovels and a tamper.

I included a little video, you can hear Chris reading his construction equipment book. I used it as a teaching moment.

Well just another winter storm on a spring morning living in Cottonwood Heights.

Friday is my birthday, but I will out of town on Friday. So I can in my office Wednesday and this is what I found.

The Cottonwood Heights Recreation Center has all kinds of sports activities. Our whole family enjoys it especially my son Chris, he just loves to play sports he will play anything at anytime. Earlier in the year he played indoor soccer, tennis and of course swimming in the out door pool during the summer months. He has taken swimming lessons, ice skating lessons. Now it is basketball with the Junior Jazz Program. Here is some footage of his first game.

Cottonwoodheights Skate Park

Me and Chris spending some of this Sunday afternoon at Cottonwoodheights Skate Park.  

The official name is “The Richard L. Guthrie Skate Park” I don’t know about you but that just doesn’t sound like the name of a skate park. It is located at 2415 East Bengal Blvd or just southwest of the Cottonwood Heights Recreation Center.

The newly renovated Ice Rink will be opening soon.

At the “African Ice” Shack in Cottonwood Heights, after ordering your snow cone from a myriad of flavors you receive a coin; A shilling for each snow cone ordered. The customer then has a choice of three different loan participants in which to place the shilling. Why?

To “Shave the World” according to the sign at “African Ice”.  Insert your shilling into one of the three containers and you are helping to fund someone a loan to start a small business in Africa. Many of the participants are women in Africa trying to provide for their family by having a small businesses.

Today was “Thinking Day” for the Girl Scouts held at Saint Thomas More on 3015 Creek Rd. Several Troops from the area’s service unit get together and create a fair type presentation of different countries.

Today was opening day of the 2008 Indoor Soccer Season, games are played at Butler Middle School right nex to the cottonwood Recreation Center. This is the 5-6 year olds playing their hearts out.
